Support the #TaxiFabric project on Kickstarter

It’s no secret. We love good design and we love Bombay taxis. So when we heard about the young designers looking to do something this cool for the taxis in Bombay, we had to write about it. For anyone who has ever hailed a taxi in the ‘city that never sleeps’ knows, Bombay taxis come with their own weird and quirky mix of type graphics and kitschy taxi seat covers.

Taxi Fabric started as an online project where Sanket Avlani (Incidentally, Sanket designed our Urban Skinny logo) photographed the patterns that he saw on taxi covers every day during his commute to work. Hashtagged #taxifabric, soon he started inviting other folks to document the patterns that they saw in the taxis that they hailed, on social media.

Sanket and his group of designer friends soon saw this as an opportunity to create something of lasting value among the ubiquitous black and yellow cabs that we use everyday and rarely give a second glance to.

Each designer created a pattern after consulting with taxi drivers that they collaborated with, for the project. One of our favourite illustrators Gaurav Ogale created this beautiful ‘pigeon inspired’ design as the taxi driver wanted something to do with ‘kabootars.’ (Pigeons in Hindi)

There are a number of other designers involved in the Taxi Fabric project. For more details, visit http://www.taxifabric.org

To continue to design covers for more taxis, Taxi Fabric needs your help. So far, their efforts were self-funded. Now the project is on Kickstarter and you could really help. Check out their campaign on this link– and support them. You know you want to. Watch the film here.

We were asked by the kind folks from Intuit Small Business India’s Editorial Team to participate in their Q&A where they speak to business owners about their work and their journey.

It was a good moment for us to take stock of the last ten months since we started this journey. Most entrepreneurs will agree that we tend to get so caught up with the day-to-day nitty gritties of the business that we hardly get time to take a step back and look at the larger picture and sometimes just feel good about the progress that’s been made. So this was our ‘clink glass’ moment. Cheers to the future! You can read the interview here.Image http://smallbusinessindia.intuit.in/interview-business-profile/featuring-urban-skinny/
